What Is LED Lighting?

Standing for light emitting diode, LED refers to the technology used to create this particular style of light. An electrical current is used to create the light around the diode. The standard LED contains two terminals that focus the light to emit in a single path to create a more natural looking light source that offers high efficiency. 4B Systems installed LED systems in residential and commercial properties in metro Chicago and Mundelein, IL

LED Components

Each LED light source contains a grouping of three different types of components – optical, mechanical/thermal, and electrical. Together, these components work to create a safe, easy-to-use, affordable, efficient light source.

LED Lights Are Available in Different Colors

LEDs have the unique ability to provide a range of colors, including whites, reds, blues, yellows, oranges, purples, and greens. Variations exist within each color grouping. An energy gap exists in the semiconductor of the diode that is used in the LED. Manufacturers have been able to create different colors by varying this energy gap. Once designed, each LED light produces consistent color illumination.

Energy Efficiency of LED Lights

Offering an energy-efficient lighting solution that is more affordable than either incandescent bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs, LEDs (energy-star rated) utilize much less energy to produce light. Moreover, they have a longer shelf life, so they need replacement less frequently. Approximately 10% of the energy used by incandescent bulbs generates visible light, while about 20% of the energy used by CFLs (compact fluorescent bulbs) produces visible light.

What Are the Advantages of Using LED Lighting?

Several benefits arise from the use of LEDs over other types of lighting. They include:
